The Adopt-a-Scientist Volunteer Program and of course, the Engineering Week Bridge Building initiative are supported by PEO Lambton, but in recent years the Science Education Partnership have expanded to include an Adopt-a-Farmer/Canada Ag Day effort and a some new volunteers who have developed computer coding activities for the junior grades.
Therefore, they have decided to re-organize all these strands into one cohesive program. It will be known as the Science Discovery Squad. Their new slogan describes what they strive to do; “Connecting Community with Classrooms”. Their mission is to fosters an interest in science at the elementary school level through hands-on activities.
The volunteer programs themselves are not changing too much, but we are renaming each strand as a separate division. i.e. They will have a Science Division, an Agriculture Division, a Bridge Builders Division, and a Coding Division.
The Lambton Chapter of the PEO has been a long-time partner in the Bridge Building efforts, and as such, all members are invited to attend an upcoming media event where they will announce the name change and showcase some of the volunteer activities. It is Thursday, February 21st at 10 a.m. at Errol Road School (989 Errol Road East in Sarnia) in the school gym. The formal announcement will take about 15 minutes and then everyone will be invited to wander through the activity stations and partake in refreshments.
